Treatment Harms in Paediatric Primary Care

The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiology in children harms detectable from general practice records, and identify risk factors. SHARP examined 9076 patient records 44 practices New Zealand, with an enrolled population 210,559 patients. “Harm” defined as disease, injury, disability, suffering, death, arising health system. age group studied ≤20 years age. There were 193 141 adolescents during 3-year period. Harms reported one (3.5%) aged <2 years, 80 (6.6%) 2 <12 36 (4.9%) 12 <18 24 (7.5%) 18 years. annualised rates harm 36/1000 child adolescent for all harms, 20/1000 medication-related (MRH), 2/1000 severe MRH, 0.4/1000 hospitalisation. For drug groups most frequently involved anti-infectives (51.9%), genitourinary (15.4%), dermatologicals (12.5%), nervous system (9.6%). Treatment-related less common than a corresponding adult population. MRH type related treatments used. increased number consultations.
